Stage 1. Market research and analysis

  • To understand the footwear market in India, we first conducted a competitive audit of similar early-stage brands selling men’s, women’s, and kids’ footwear. This helped us study their product ranges, pricing, website structure, and user experience. After that, we worked closely with the company’s director to understand Shoeleaf’s goals — starting with formal shoes, sandals, and kids’ footwear rather than sneakers. This research gave us clarity on the target audience, key product categories, and what users expect when shopping for footwear online.

Stage 2. Concept development and user flow design

  • After understanding the market and Shoeleaf’s product direction, we started shaping the concept for the website. Our goal was to keep the experience simple and easy for users who want to browse different categories like men’s, women’s, and kids’ footwear. I created the basic user flows for the website—covering homepage navigation, product discovery, product detail pages, cart, and checkout. This helped us finalize how users would move through the site smoothly and find the right products without confusion.

Stage 3. UI design and prototyping

  • Once the user flows were clear, I started designing the UI for Shoeleaf. I focused on creating a clean, modern layout that showcased the footwear collections clearly and made browsing effortless. We experimented with different color combinations, banner styles, and product card designs until the brand identity felt consistent. After finalizing the visual direction, I built an interactive prototype to test the full shopping experience—from landing on the homepage to completing a purchase.

Stage 4. User testing and iteration

  • For user testing, we worked closely with the company director and Shoeleaf employees over several days. They reviewed the website flow, product pages, and overall design, and shared feedback based on real business needs. Many elements were refined and adjusted according to their guidelines—such as banner placements, product filtering options, and homepage structure—to ensure the final design matched the company’s vision and goals.

Stage 5. Final presentation and handoff

  • After final approvals, we organized a full walkthrough of the website for the director, explaining the design decisions, user flow, and overall structure. Since we were the main designers, there was no formal handoff process. Instead, we directly handled the final refinements and published the website ourselves, ensuring everything was aligned with the brand’s vision and ready for customers.

Reflections

Working on Shoeleaf.in gave me hands-on experience in designing a full e-commerce website from scratch. Collaborating closely with the director and team helped me understand real business needs, fast decision-making, and adapting designs to match brand expectations. This project strengthened my skills in layout design, product presentation, and building user flows for online shopping. It also taught me how to balance creative ideas with practical requirements—an essential part of being a UX/UI designer.
